Top 10 Anti-Aging Skin Care Tips
While skin care products and various beauty regimens can help your skin look great later in life, it’s important to build a healthy foundation by following a few simple and proactive skin care tips.
1. Reduce sun exposure
Sun exposure prematurely ages our skin, causing wrinkles and age spots. To avoid sun damage, be sure to stay in the shade, especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and cover up with protective clothing, a hat, and sunglasses. Avoiding sun bathing or using tanning beds is also an easy way to reduce exposure.
2. Wear sunscreen
For any skin that is exposed to the sun, apply sunscreen to protect it from UV rays. Choose a broad spectrum, water resistant sunscreen that is at least 30 SPF for the best protection.
3. Cleanse your face
Wash your face each morning and night with warm water and a gentle cleanser. Exfoliation can be done occasionally to remove the topmost layer of dead skin cells, but the type of treatment depends on your skin. To avoid over-exfoliating, consult your dermatologist before starting an at-home exfoliation regimen.
4. Moisturize your skin
Moisturizing year-round is important to prevent new wrinkles and minimize existing wrinkles. The moisturizer can also provide protection, especially if it has SPF, and help your complexion look even. Although it may seem counter intuitive, using a moisturizer can also help with oily skin and acne.
5. Don’t smoke
Improving the look of your skin is just one of the many health benefits of quitting smoking. Smoking can cause premature wrinkles, leathery skin, and a dull complexion.
6. Eat healthy
A healthy diet can quickly result in healthier skin. Be sure to eat a balanced diet of fruits and vegetables, and add a supplement if you aren’t getting vitamins and minerals from your current diet.
7. Get enough sleep
Your skin renews itself overnight, which is why it’s important to get enough sleep. One reason many dermatologists encourage a bedtime regimen of creams or serums is to give your skin a boost when it’s already working to undo damage. Studies show the prime amount of sleep is between 7-9 hours a night, with a consistent sleep schedule.
8. Treat acne
Many people suffer from adult acne, which can cause your skin to look uneven.
9. Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
In addition to anti-aging creams, there are many in-office treatments that help reduce the appearance of natural wrinkles that may form over time such as our Botox and Juvederm treatments.
10. Even skin tone
Laser and light treatments work to even skin tone while reducing the look of wrinkles and spots. Many people notice an improvement in skin tone and texture after just one treatment.
