Breast Augmentation in Reston, Virginia
Breast augmentation surgery can help women achieve a natural, balanced, harmonious feminine look. Breast implant surgery is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgeries. This is the right surgery for women who desire larger breasts, women who have lost breast volume or experienced deflation of their breasts due to pregnancy and lactation. Breast implants may also be used to balance some asymmetries. Breast implants may also provide some lift of the tissue without the scars associated with a formal breast lift.
Dr. Gottlieb will discuss if this surgery is right for you and can help guide you through the decision/ planning for this surgery.
What Type of Implant is Right For Me?
Silicone gel and saline implants are available. Saline implants are less expensive and generally require a smaller incision. It is also easy to detect implant deflation. If there is adequate native breast volume, it can be hard to distinguish saline implants from silicone gel filled ones. Silicone gel implants are undeniably more natural feeling. In thinner patients, the difference in feel of the breasts as well as more natural appearance may be significant. Dr. Gottlieb will be happy to discuss the best implant shape, surface texture, fill and volume for you.
Where Should My Implant Be Placed?
Implants can be placed below the breast tissue or under the muscle (usually partially submuscular) Generally above the muscle placement will provide a little more lift and eliminate visible movement of the implant with contraction of the pectoral muscle. Placing the implant under the muscle can provide more camouflage or padding over the implant but may result in more movement. Again, after examination, Dr. Gottlieb can guide you toward appropriate pocket placement.
What Incision Should Be Used?
Although Dr. Gottlieb performed most breast augmentations through an incision under the breast (inframammary), she also performs implants through an incision at the border of the areola. Both incisions tend to be well disguised and will generally fade significantly over the first year or two after surgery.
Where Is the Surgery Done?
Dr. Gottlieb operates at a variety of hospitals and surgery centers in Northern Virginia.
Are Implants Required?
Although most women have the greatest benefit using breast implants, some volume can be added to the breast using fat from other areas. Double the results from liposuction of the abdomen, hips or thighs.
