What Are the Benefits of an Arm Lift?

Even with diligent exercise, it can be extremely difficult if not impossible for individuals to remove this sagging skin on their own, which is why surgical procedures such as the Brachioplasty can be so helpful in achieving your desired results.

The purpose of an arm lift has more to do with personal preference than medical necessity as this procedure can help to greatly improve a person’s self-confidence in themselves and their body.

Preparing for Your Procedure

In order to set yourself up for success and optimal results after your arm lift, you should follow these simple tips prior to your surgery date:

  • Assess the situation: The first thing that you should do if you are considering a Brachioplasty is to have yourself evaluated by a professional plastic surgeon. During your consultation, you should be sure to discuss your expectations for the procedure.
  • Talk with your doctor: It is crucial that you notify Dr. Gottlieb about all of your current and past medications, family health history, prior surgical procedures you have undergone, and anything else that you feel is relevant to your arm lift. If you are taking any anti-inflammatories or blood thinners you will likely be asked to refrain from taking them immediately before your arm lift.
  • Stop smoking: Not only is smoking harmful to your entire body, but it can specifically inhibit the healing process of your skin. This could potentially result in complications as you recover from your arm lift, which is why it is simply best to avoid tobacco products entirely.
  • Find support: You will of course be under general anesthetic during the procedure. Once you are ready to leave our office, you will need someone that is able to drive you home and help to care for you as you begin the healing process. It can also be quite helpful to prepare meals and a comfortable resting area within your home beforehand.

What Happens During an Arm Lift

You will be sedated to make sure you are comfortable throughout the surgery. Once you are stable, Dr. Gottlieb will make incisions along each of the inner upper arms. The exact size and length of this incision will depend on how much excess skin is being removed.

At this point, your surgeon will be able to tighten the underlying tissues of the upper arm to give them a more toned appearance. This process may also include liposuction to remove any unwanted fat in this area.

Dr. Gottlieb will then work to secure the newly tightened skin using stitches and will finish the procedure by cutting away the extra skin and closing the incisions.
